In order to improve the conditions of the streets, the City of Miami will make improvements to Segment B3 which is located between NE 42 Street and NE 51 Street. It is the fourth roadway segment being implemented for the road improvements of NE 2nd Avenue between NE 20 Street and NE 84 Street. Segment A, consisting of the limits between NE 20 Street and NE 36 Street, and Segment D, between the limits of NE 69 Street and NE 84 Street are currently in design. “The second Avenue project was something that was promised to the residents and merchants, and it is much needed. We are excited that is happening now.” said Mayor Tomas Regalado.
Improvements to the entire roadway segment will include, but are not limited to, roadway reconstruction, asphalt pavement, a new draining system, new sidewalks, new curbs and gutters, pavement markings, signage, decorative street lighting and landscaping. “The roadway improvements, when completed, will address the many safety concerns that have been expressed by the area’s residents,” said Commission Vice Chairman Keon Hardemon.
Construction is anticipated to commence November 2015 and the entire project should be completed in approximately 13 months. SRS Engineering, Inc. are the City of Miami’s partners in designing this segment and JVA Engineering Contractors, Inc. will be the contractor for the project. Design and construction costs for Segment B3 is $4.468 million financed by Miami-Dade County’s Charter County Transportation Surtax and Transit Half-Cent Surtax dollars.
