The City of Miami Outreach, the Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET), the Parks and Recreation Department, and Office of the Mayor Veteran Services along with the Florida Department of Health, the Florida State Attorney’s Office, Goodwill Industries, and Slumlord Advocacy Group will come together with many community partners and volunteers on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Lummus Park to help homeless citizens get off the streets of Miami by using the same model so successfully used to assist Homeless Veterans earlier this year. The goal is to offer assistance and provide supportive services in an effort to find placement opportunities for those seeking a way off the streets. Volunteers will hand out clothing, offer medical and dental exams and other social services.
“What we’ve got going here is truly an attempt to help our citizens get off the streets,” said Lt.Col. Antonio Colmenares USMC (Ret), the volunteer Director of Veteran Services for the City of Miami. Lt.Col. Colmenares has partnered with Sr Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police James Bernat, City of Miami Police Department Homeless Coordinator, to help mobilize the community to assist these homeless citizens.
Come join this historic event and help our citizens get off the streets.
